A large variety of local restaurants and bars, supermarkets, shops, Friday market, fish market, port, daily boat tours to Simena, Sunken City, Castellorizo (Meis) nearby Greek Island, also charter boats, paragliding, walks, fishing, ancient Greek ruins nearby. Warm all year round and hot in summer, temperate winter climate, Kas has pretty cobbled streets, attractive port with picturesque gulets (wooden sail ships) ferries and local excursion boats, some with glass bottoms to visit the sunken city of Simena. Kas is ideal for diving and there are several good diving schools within the town.
Kas is located near Antalya in the Mediterranean region south of Turkey.
Originally, Kas was called Habesos or Habesa in the ancient tongue of Lycia and was later given the name Antiphellos. Kas was founded on the ancient town of Antiphellos - the Lycian style sarcophagus at the beginning of the avenue running down to the port is an iconic symbol of this beautiful town.
Antiphellos was once a member of the Lycian League and gained reputation and importance as a port town during the Hellenistic period, and sustained its significance during the Roman period for the export of wood and sponges.
The Kas of today is a coastal town of the Lycians. "Phellos" is the Greek word for "stony place" and this name is very well suited to Kas. There are ruins of a Hellenistic theatre, the monumental Lion Tomb, and some hillside rock tombs in and around the town, which are well worth seeing.
Today, Kas is a small, charming coastal resort where many sailing boats anchor in its small marina and is an ideal place to holiday in Turkey.
Kas is situated midway between Antalya and Dalaman airports. There are many flights to both from most UK airports but we would recommend Dalaman (the road is better and therefore the transfer is quicker!). Transport can be arranged to and from the airport. From Dalaman transfer time is 2 hours approx.
Booking confirmed with 25% deposit. Full payment required 6 weeks before departure. A £150 pound returnable damages deposit is required. Late bookings considered.
